Well the answer to that age old question IS... My Grandma had the button!!
Going through things today I found her button container..not only did she have buttons but some small pretty rocks, tiny baby dolls, a few tiny red lids off of what I guess we're small bottles and some little sea shells.
Yep.. My Grandma had the button...
and other stuff

Oh Mare I love old buttons. I have quite a collection myself. I have a pretty antique green glass bowl that some are in and some are in old jars. I just think they are wonderful!...simple things, as I have said in the past! I love the little flower button in the last photo, so cute...and the yellow one kind of art deco looking, and the....oh dear I had better stop. I have seen 2 cute ideas for using old buttons lately. One was a sweater that they had sewn buttons on the one shoulder, I may try that one myself, and the other was a lamp shade that had buttons all over it. Both very clever and pretty. Now I guess I had better 'button' up my fingers and quit blabbing!!!
ReplyDeleteAll in all, quite a treasure you have there.
Hugs, Beth
Me again, in my other house I made use of buttons by hanging my necklaces from them. I nailed cork squares on a wall in my closet and put nails across the top of each square about 1 inch apart and then another row down an inch between the higher nails. Then I glued a button to the top of each nail so it looked like each necklace was hanging from a button. It was really cute and I am going to do the same thing in this house, on a much smaller scale! It is on my 'to do' list!
ReplyDeleteMare, I bet you didn't think you would get this much blabbing from me on buttons!
:-) Beth
Hi Beth~! I wonder why I am not at all surprised that you love buttons??? :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the idea for your necklaces...I hope you will send pics after you do that again at your new house.
I also saw the sweater on Mable's House Blog...so so cute...think we need to try it..
I need to go fix the post as I sent it from my phone...was ok, but not the very best...
Have a good night all...
oh..the metal button that says United States is in the bottom left of the last picture.
I love old buttons, too. I have my mom's collection of buttons. She used to cut the buttons off old shirts and dresses, because that's what thrifty women did, and I don't know that she ever really thought of them as a "collection." I sorted out all the white buttons and have them in an old jar on my coffee table. Some of them are mother of pearl, and are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteSandra, such a cool idea...I know for grandma it was necessary to cut off the button from all old clothes. She had some really pretty and interesting ones as I'm sure you all have. There are a couple that I thought looked like depression glass..does anyone know if that is possible? Also found a couple ration "coins"...a little treasure box..:)
ReplyDeleteADD ME TO THE LIST. I HAVE A SMALL CEDERBOX FILLED WITH BUTTONS ALSO. I THINK MAYBE GLUING THEM ON A SMALL LAMPSHADE WOULD BE DIFFERANT.ANYMORE IDEA FROM THE GALLEY.

Hi Mare,
ReplyDeleteI was not surprised either. We have many things in common!
I continue to work around the house organizing things. I did do something fun today and went out to lunch with a friend. It was a beautiful day and felt good to sit outside and eat.
My bunco group is meeting here tomorrow night so I better get back to dusting all of those things I just unpacked!
Hugs, Beth
