On our way to visit Megan and her family a couple weeks ago, I got a text as we were almost there! It read, "I PASSED"...passed WHAT you ask?? Our girl has been taking classes for quite awhile and was just within reach of her Bachelor's degree...with "chemo brain" she was having a rough time finishing up and had a math class to complete to get her degree...I rarely asked how it was going because I knew it was a rough go just to survive, let alone think about taking classes...always next semester I would think.
BUT..the fog lifted enough (and she is super smart...did I mention that??) and with a little coaching from Graycie...she took her exams and PASSED!!
We were going out to see her Hubby get his Master's Degree and we knew we would be driving another 100 miles or so (the next day after our 500 mile trip btw! :) BUT, little did we know we would be having this treat!
We got there and on the counter lay her cap and gown!!! Can you even imagine?? Not only did she survive this last year, but she earned a degree ON TOP of that! I tell you she is AMAZING (have I mentioned that before???)
Anyway, the next morning we got up about 4 to get around and get to her Hubs graduation for his Master's where he gave the closing "reflection" (no more closing prayers I guess) and until the night before he said he wasn't sure until about midnight when it HIT him...what an inspirational "reflection" he gave...he talked about the trial of going back to college with two small children, then having cancer himself and then his wife having cancer...how he needed the "faith of a mustard seed" and each time he didn't think he could do it, he would gather his mustard seeds and with that tiny seed of faith, God saw him through...He finished with his life verse which is Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
How proud we were of him!! and there was not a dry eye in the place!
After Kevin's graduation, we headed to another building to watch Megan...I couldn't find her!!! come to find out, she was the first one in the door! And the first one to receive her degree...
After the ceremony, we met up outside...I looked at her, she looked at me and as I pulled her close to tell her how proud I was of her, we started to cry...what a long journey...one that continues, but with wonderful milestones along the way.
As the photos finished and rain was closing in, we headed back the 100 miles so that Kevin, Megan, Moe, Graycie, Kevin's mom and dad, Mike and myself could have a time together over a lunch out...and then we stopped for an ice cream cake to top it off.
Megan did quite well, but the day took its toll on her...at the program she had begun to sweat and have tunnel vision and felt so odd...and as dinner closed she really needed to head home and take some medicine and rest. It took her a few hours to feel a bit better and a few days to recuperate, but of course, she did...that girl has got gumption!!
SO...there is my "proud mama" story, my Megan update and my brag page all in one...
Thank you everyone for the prayers and concern...it has meant (and continues to mean) so much!
HUGS AND HIGH FIVES MEGAN....YOU DID IT!!! YOU DID IT!!! Daddy and I are SO SO SO SO proud of you! What an example to your girls (and, well, ....to everyone!!)
WOW! Just WOW! What a story!! What a GREAT story! Congratulations in a huge way, Mama Mare! And hats off to both Megan and Kevin! What a fabulous day and what fabulous accomplishments! Thrilled for all of you.

It has been a tough time for your family the last few years and God has given you the strength to get through the tough parts with Love and Devotion. I feel so humble right now for acceptance and then the will to live prevails with prayer. A true testament to your families strength. Megan....I am happy for you!! Off topic---we're leaving in a couple of hours to drive down to the Outer Banks of NC for 9 days! Beach, here we come! LOL Yay! We'll drive halfway today and stop at a beach along the way and get a room. We can't get into the cottage we rented until 4 pm tomorrow. This is our annual trip to this cottage. I think it's our 7th year, but I'm not sure. If the prices keep going up, it may be our last! Ha!Ha! We meet up with Kevin's older brother, Dave, down there and he's just a blast to hang out with! Love him! We go to the beach during the day (private beach) then hot tub it at night. Sound good? Wish you could all come along! I don't know if I'll check in from there or not. I'm not too good at it on my iPhone! Mare may have to give me lessons. LOL
ReplyDeleteYou all have a great next 9 days and I hope you do something fun in there somewhere. Granny? Go get some art supplies and start painting! I'll miss you all.
Much love! Until next time...
Katie
