Soupy

That's what it is here....SOUPY!! That's what we always called it when the fog rolled in. It didn't matter if it was summer or winter.. if it's foggy and damp it's soupy outside. Is this a term you've heard before? I'm wondering if it's something that's used across the United States or if it's just a local midwest thing.
No matter. It is truly beautiful outside this morning as the trees are covered In what looks like beautiful jewels. It's like being in a beautiful winter painting. Hope it's wonderful wherever you are today

  1. Yep. We always called it "soupy" when I lived in Washington State, New England and now here in NJ. But we don't get much fog in NJ. Lots of it in Tacoma. Soupy it is! Your photos are beautiful and I'm only happy it is you and not me since you seem to be okay with it! It has warmed up here some and it's nice. Kevin and I have been very, very sick since Thursday and unable to make a fire or anything. We do have the heat cranked. This is one very nasty flu! I hope none of you get it! Gloria how's your pneumonia?

Hope everyone is well and happy in the new year!

  2. Mare,
As you know I live in Washington state now. But, in Callie we never called it "soupy" we were, "sox'd in" You don't know how bad the fog is there! I had to drive home on the fwy. from Huntington Beach to San Diego. That's a two hour cruise. I have never been so scared in all of my life. I kept expecting at any minute to run into something in the fog. I still have nightmares about that!xo susan

SHE'S FEELING MUCH BETTER.SHE HAD HER SON BRING THE LAPTOP COMPUTER TO THE HOSPITAL.MY FRIEND IS STILL IN REHAB FROM THE BROKEN HIP SITUATION. [I MONTH SO FAR]. DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS FOR HER. TIME WILL TELL.THE FLU SITUATION IS SO BAD THIS YEAR. SO MANY PEOPLE DON'T BELIEVE IN THE SHOT BUT I WOULDN'T GO WITHOUT IT. 5. Good eve. It's a good one to be in around here. Super chilly. I swiped Oke's blanket and am nice and snuggled in. :) actually he just climbed on my lap too so EXTRA comfy.
Susan we do also say we are socked in but that's a tight super dense fog. Hmm not sure if that couldn't have been said about this a.m. Glad u got home safely. I know it had to be a few years ago but stays with a person.
Katie I really don't know how ok I was with it today but only have 5 blocks to work and no traffic. After being on the dry end of the state I do now love seeing the frost again as there really wasn't much for frost covered anything which was good in some ways-like it also meant no black ice. Hope u and Kevin r feeling better. SOON!
TG glad u are well. At least from the flu! We do have a post from Gloria 2posts back. The new year post Everyone might like to go back and read it. It catches us up on how Gloria is doing. She has had a rough go of it poor girl. I'm sure she'd appreciate all prayers.
Oh. And for our long time blog friends just wanted to let u know that Artichoke Annie turned 75 today. Wr've been together a long time when u start to remember everyone's birthdays! I just KNEW it was someone bday coming up and looked at archives and sure enough there it was. :)
Ok everyone. Time to call it good. Hope u all have a night. Hugs. M

  7. I remember calling it soupy. Haven't heard it in awhile so maybe my parents used that term. So it has been used in CA!

  8. I remember my parents talking about fog being "soupy" but it isn't a word used commonly any more. Your photos are beautiful, Mare.

  9. Hi everyone,
Last night I was released from the hospital about 4PM. Today the visitng nurse was here to get me use to my new adventure in life that I have to monitor. I have to take diabetic medication because the liver is not filtering right due to not getting the proper blood flow, etc. so I have to take pills and monitor my insulin. I went into Afib for one full day which could of caused a blood clot to develop in my heart so now I have to take Xarelto which is a blood thinner so I do not have a stroke. All to the thanks of the hospital that did not test me for the flu, it created a major mess with my body. I am very weak and my heart doctor had to up my heart medication as well. I received excellent care by the doctors and nurses at Crouse Hospital. My pneumonia has been cleared with a very high dose of antibotics and my oxygen level today is at 98% on 3 liters of oxygen. I can breathe again... (mind you, not the greatest because of COPD, but I can get a deeper breath.)

Katie: Do not let your cold (flu) go too long without getting professional care. The flu this year is going right into pneumonia. The strain of flu is Influenza A and the flu shot that people received did not get that coverage for Influenza A. There were so many people in the hospital with pneumonia.

I felt your prayers everyone, I felt my Mom's spirit very close to me while I was there. This is a funny but cute. A volunteer came into my room, and she had a twitch by her lips, my mom use to twitch like that when she was nervous, so I zoomed right onto it. She was lightly chatting and I kept looking at the twitch, then I looked down to her name tag. Yuppers, it said RUTH....My mom's name!! My Mom was very strong in her faith and I knew right then, I was ok for I said to the lady, you have the same name as my Mom... A big smile came across her face, then she said God Bless You...

I never heard the word soupy for fog. We would just say it was foggy out.

Oh ladies....when I went into AFIB and had half the nursing staff in the bathroom with me for I was using the facilities when they came flying in. You know that saying, scared the poop out of you..thank goodness... I have good control on that end. I am still laughing about it for they scooped me up and into bed I went.

Take care....the sun is shining....I have a little drag in my butt with no energy and I know that will take time to regain my strength but I am glad I am HOME.....

  11. Continue to take good care of yourself, Gloria. I am glad you are now home.

  12. Welcome home Gloria! It is really a concern when we don't hear from you!! I guess we were right to be concerned weren't we? It has to be just an awful feeling to not be able to breathe and then the complications that come with the meds intended to help! Take care-prayers for your healing and health.
Katie, hope you are feeling better (and Kev too!) Take care of you!
TG: hope you and gramps stay well...he does get out a lot so hope he stays away from it (for his sake, but also he doesn't need to bring it home and SHARE!)
Beth and Lus-our lucky CA gals! It is raining here today but is "warm" 37 degrees (LOL-ok, warm for HERE~!)Please soak up some sun for me (and Grettel can soak some up for the O-man who by the way is finally doing better)
Susan-glad you don't have to travel that road again, but sorry there is no one there to go visit :(
Just got home from work so am sitting and just enjoying the quiet...
    Have a good one
    M
