Going through the folks' things was quite a chore...and an adventure. There really wasn't tons that we didn't know they had...we did, however, find a handful of things.
In one of the little boxes mom had filled with "special" treasures, was this envelope on which she had typed on the front: 13 THINGS TO REMEMBER. by MOM.
Inside was a timeworn newspaper clipping. It appeared to have been pasted or taped onto a piece of cardboard. It was something mom saw as so important that she had saved it...and when it started to come apart, she typed it out and saved the original, along with the typed copy and put it safely into an envelope...
It was kept safe and uncovered, much as a hidden treasure would be. The discovery of this envelope may as well have been gold...the gold that made up my mother's heart...I carefully opened up the envelope, put the broken pieces together and read: simple yet profound. It spoke to my mother's life, her thoughts, her heart.
I have read it, am sharing it, and it is back in it's envelope and tucked away to be found someday...to hopefully be shared and pondered.
Oh Mare....I so love this....
ReplyDeleteGOOD MORNING AMY AND MARE AND ALL THAT COME BY MARES' BLOG TODAY.THEY JUST ANNOUNCED THEY CAUGHT THE KILLER AND HE ADMITTED THE ACT. A YOUNG MAN. LOOKS LIKE HE'S IN HIS EARLY TWENTIES. THE REASON HE TOLD THE COPS WAS HE HATED COPS. IS THERE ANYTHING MORE TO SAY? I DON'T THINK SO. LIFE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME FOR THESE FAMILIES.

So sad...so very many lives ruined. Hubby came home a couple days ago and said one of the men from town who works with him got word his son was shot and killed in a shoot out.(the town where hubby works..10 miles away..fairly small town)..over a child. The man emptied a gun in the house and then when the man ran out to leave in his pickup, more shots fired and he was hit in the head. So senseless.
ReplyDeletepraying for peace...
mare
YES MARE SO MUCH HATE. IT'S JUST THE TIMES WE'RE IN AND I THINK YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. KILLING FOR JUST THE THRILL. SO SAD.TO BAD EVERYONE COULDN'T LIVE BY THE 13 THINGS ON YOUR MOMS LIST. IT WOULD MAKE FOR A BETTER WORLD TO LIVE IN.
ReplyDeleteI JUST HAVEN'T HAD MUCH TO WRITE ON THE BLOGS LATELY. JUST A BUNCH OF NOTHING. YOU HAVE BECOME SPECIAL TO ME SO IF I'M NOT WRITING AS MUCH YOUR STILL IN MY THOUGHTS. ALOT GOING ON HERE WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS. HUGS
GRANNY
I'm so sorry to hear of the shootings...
ReplyDeleteMare, your mom's list should be a national treasure! I'm so glad you found it. Thanks for sharing...
Katie
Hello Mare and friends,
ReplyDeleteA cold and cloudy day here also, as was yesterday. It is suppose to dry and warm up starting tomorrow which is good because Mr.NYC is arriving tomorrow night. Yeah! Although he will be put to work as soon as he gets here, it will be SO good to see him! We will go look at more houses on Friday, so wish us luck...once again...
Mare-LOVED the list and what a treasure. I think I am going to copy it down and keep it in my wallet for the occasional 'look-see' when I need it! So very sorry and sad for the shooting in your area. It breaks my heart.
TG-AGAIN, SO SORRY FOR YOUR NEIGHBOR'S PAIN AT THIS HORRIBLE TRAGEDY. I KNOW IT MUST WEIGH HEAVY ON YOUR HEART TO SEE THEIR PAIN. JUST GIVE THEM YOUR COMFORT WHEN YOU SEE THEM, MAYBE SEND THEM A NOTE, THAT IS ALL YOU CAN DO IS TO LET THEM KNOW YOU HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN. I KNOW YOU WILL BE A GOOD FRIEND TO THEM.SOMEONE VERY CLOSE TO ME IS IN LAW INFORCEMENT AND IT WORRIES ME ENDLESSLY, THIS ATTITUDE OF JUST KILLING COPS FOR THE JOY OF IT.I DON'T EVEN LIKE TO USE THE WORD JOY IN THAT SENTENCE... THEY WORK EVERYDAY TO PROTECT THOSE THAT HATE THEM ALONG WITH THOSE THAT RESPECT THEM. THEY GET RANDOM HATE WHEN THEY DON'T DESERVE IT. PEOPLE ONLY WANT THEM INVOLVED WHEN IT IS FOR THEIR GOOD AND THEN COMPLAIN WHEN THEY ARE DOING THEIR JOBS. OK, NOW OFF OF MY SOAPBOX. AS YOU CAN TELL I AM A BIT OPIONATED ABOUT THIS.
Katie-hope your mom is improving everyday! Have a great time on your vacation!!!
Hugs, Beth
Geez, I was ranting so much that I couldn't even spell 'opinionated' right!
ReplyDeleteWhatever you happen to be doing tomorrow (Thursday) have a happy thought because Kevin and I are leaving for our drive to North Carolina and we will be having a fun time! We take 2 days to get down there and we don't take the interstate! We'll get there around 3 pm Friday and meet Kev's wonderful (fun) big brother at the cottage. Then it's a solid week of relaxing, sunning, beaching and fun!
ReplyDeleteI think I've figured out how to get to Mare's blog on my iPhone so I might be able to check in some, if it works. Otherwise I'll see you on June 1st! Chins up. Things are going to be better for all of us soon. I really know that.
Smile, for me. Thanks!
Oh, mom's going to be just fine now. She's coming right along and the rest of her recovery will probably be very routine. :)
hugs all around!
Mare, text me.
