Mama, Mary Etta and Kathy early 1950's (probably on a Saturday-hair pinned for Sunday)

Please oh PLEASE tell me that you (or your mom or grandma) had a container like this on their dresser, bathroom counter, or even in the linen closet!!!
As we sorted through belongings, low and behold we saw this and all gave a holler!! Yes indeedy, you guessed it, this sat out with the lovely bristle brush rollers in it. Mom would curl grandma's hair every Saturday for YEARS, and the rollers resided in this "lovely" homemade container (probably what liquid starch had come in) and then decorated with the little decals that you would dampen and apply to your project and when they dried were "glued" on tightly.
Isn't it funny what memories bring us such happiness?

well..... I'm all for recycling. Good idea!
ReplyDeleteI love it! My mother kept her curlers in a big tin can in her vanity drawer. I bet they're still in there...

Mare, don't you dare paint that chair! It is perfect in a wonderfully chippy way. Rachel Ashwell would love it! I say to bring it in the house, though. It's too wonderfully chippy perfect to be outside!!
ReplyDeleteOh, and to answer your question. I have never seen anything quite like that curler holder. Very creative way to reuse a common item. Your mom was ahead of her time!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Do you still have your "bag" that we had for our curlers?? I used that for years. made from a recycled container & covered with fabric. Quite a crafty family, huh?? Not sure where the ideas came from, but, pretty neat. Remember grandma looking at dresses at the store, taking the idea from the top of one dress & bottom of another & creating cloths for us! I needed a pattern for anything I did, but she didn't. I hope you are resting well after the sale of the house little sis! Good work. Dad is so happy with all that work you have done.
ReplyDeleteHope you all have a wonderful day! Am ready for some dry sunny days here. Also hope you & your families are doing well. Am glad ours seems to be in a more normal mode fight now!
