Back In The Fold

Well all, I am HOME! 504 miles, 2 hours and $200 worth of grocery shopping and a stop at the fruit market...and I'm BACK!
I do need to get to bed (am quite tired plus son made a great meatless lasagna for supper and some fresh steamed broccoli...SO good (ok, there was a dish of ice cream for dessert too...but I feel certain you probably all knew that)
Katie, am so sorry to hear about Jeanne...and I DO want to hear about her...everyday or as long as you care to share...it sounds SO much like dad...the bladder (or UTI) can really throw the for a loop....happened to dad...He was sure I had moved them to a new house while he was in the hospital and was confused as to where rooms in his house were and just totally not with it...He is still using his wheelchair to get around but is SO much better. A lot of time and caring (from professionals and family) It is difficult until you see them getting the care they need and doing so much better...am praying that you find that to be so for Jeanne (and that Kevin will have peace of mind knowing he is doing his best AND what is best for her.) BIG hugs to you ... take care of you!
Granny...that cake sounds GREAT>I like that it doesn't call for a cake mix..that is the one I have heard of...like the sound of yours...will have to copy it to the recipe blog along with the other recipe you posted...
Hope you all have a good rest tonight...Hugs to all...
Mare

  1. Yay! Mare, Yay! I'm so happy and relieved to hear from you that you are home again! What a grocery shopping trip. I'd for sure need a nap after that! (J/K) LOL Welcome home!

And thank you for your perfect sentiments! And your experience with your dad in such a similar situation! It is scary. Right now we don't know anything much at all about what's wrong with Jeanne, what can be done about it, what drug they put her on that knocked her out, what they are doing for her diabetes (they immediately took her off her diabetes meds and she has refused to eat today. Can't do that with diabetes without horrific consequences) and no idea whether we're looking at a long or short hospital stay. We'd like the results of all the tests she had Thursday. Doc was supposed to call us tonight, but didn't. Now I suppose he is off for the weekend. Maybe not. Another thing we don't know. I think when we go to the hospital tomorrow I will be a lot less passive than Kevin and I will get some answers!

As Granny pointed out, they will probably send her to a nursing home for rehab from the hospital.Well they have already told us they will. I requested a certain nursing home. I have to somehow find the hospital social worker and talk with her about this. IF we can get her there, hopefully after rehab they will agree to move her to the long-term-stay wing. I think the hospital will determine that she requires around-the-clock nursing care, so the decision will be made for us and Kevin won't be saddled with making the decision on his own (the rest of the family bailed on us). At least I hope this is what happens. And I don't think it will be a mystery for long because I think whatever is going to happen will probably happen in the next few days.

    And that would be good.

So Welcome to my life right now. LOL

Hi Casey, Luvs, Granny, MaryE, Annie and Beth!

Mary, are those sheep your grandkids' sheep at the fair? Oh --I think you said they had calves there. Must be from Mare's stop at that other fair?

Thank heavens for all of you. Thank you for listening to me. I'm juggling a lot right now. Kevin is sick with a cold, exhausted, discouraged and sad. So I'm propping him up and trying to help make decisions about Jeanne's care as well as arguing with the rest of the family to try to get them to help! I should tell you the story about how she ended up at the hospital in the first place yesterday. You wouldn't believe what the family did!

I'm sorry. I'll stop rambling now. This is temporary. I promise it won't go on and on.

xox All of you are wonderful!

  2. OH KATIE, MY HEART IS HEAVY FOR YOU.I MOSTLY FEEL FOR YOUR HUBBY. BEING SICK, NOT GETTING UNDERSTANDING FROM THE FAMILY CAN BE A DRAG DOWN. HE MUST REST FIRST THEN CONTINUE THE JOURNEY. IN THE END IT ALL WILL WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD. JUST HANG IN THERE AND YOU CAN COME HERE TO VENT. WE ARE YOUR INVISIBLE FRIENDS.YOU KNOW HOW WHEN WE WERE LITTLE GIRLS AND TALKED TO OUR DOLLS WHEN WE WERE MAD AT OUR MOM OR DAD. THEY HELD ALL OUR SECRETS. WE WILL BE YOUR PRAYER WARRIORS. HOW'S YOUR MOM DOING?IS SHE UP AND AROUND? EVERY DAY THERE'S SOMETHING NEW TO FIX OR THINK ABOUT. CANCER IS THE ONE THAT KEEPS TAKING MY FRIENDS FROM ME.LOST A GOOD FRIEND A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO TO CANCER. HE WAS READY. THE PAIN WAS TO MUCH.HE CHECKED HIMSELF OUT OF THE CARE CENTER HE WAS IN. HE WANTED TO BE HOME AND BE ABLE TO GO TO OUR LITTLE CHURCH BEFORE HE DIED. HE DID EVERYTHING FOR OUR CHURCH UP IN N.Y.FOR YEARS. HE MISS GOING. THAT WAS TWO WEEKS AGO AND HE DIED THIS WEEK.HEAVEN IS JUST A LITTLE BIT BRIGHTER THAN IT WAS BEFORE HE DIED. I'LL MISS HIM. HE WAS ONE FUNNY MAN. ALWAYS KEPT ME LAUGHUNG WHEN I WAS HOME.

  4. Hello Ladies!...and gents who are peeking :-)

Hi Mare-I bet you are glad to be back home and continue the unpacking...lol.I am sure it was a wonderful trip and the birthday party looked liked fun.Loved the cupcakes. I looked at a house that I really like.Ok here is the big but, and isn't there always a big but?!,it is a little above my price range so I have to wait it out and see if he will deal with me.Can't do it now as it just went on the market, the realtor dance that I just don't like!It is a beautful fully remodeled Craftsmen home.I don't think it will last long so I have to figure out just how much I will want to stretch... prayers welcomed!

Katie-prayers sent your way.I KNOW you and Kevin will make the right decisions but they may be the hardest ones also. So not fair that it is left to Kevin but maybe that is a blessing for his mom because you both will do the right thing by her.She definitely should not be on her own anymore. The next emergency could be tragic and Kevin would never forgive himself.Keep smiling and hang in there.Like TG and Mare said, we are here for you...type away!

TG-SO SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR FRIEND BUT WHAT A BLESSING THAT HE WAS ABLE TO CHOOSE HIS FINAL PATH IN LIFE.DON'T WE ALL WANT TO DO THAT.AS WITH WHAT KATIE AND KEVIN ARE GOING THRU SO OFTEN OTHERS HAVE TO DO IT FOR US AND THAT IS SO VERY HARD.TAKES HEART AND STRENGTH TO MAKE THOSE DECISIONS.

    Hugs, Beth

  5. BETH, IF THE HOUSE IS MEANT TO BE THEN IT'LL BE YOURS.BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT ALSO. I'M SURE EVERYTHING WILL WORK OUT FOR YOU IN THE END. I ALWAY FOUND THE WAITING WAS THE HARDEST THING TO DO. LOOK AT THIS HOUSE WE'RE IN. GREAT PRICE BUT SO MUCH WORK GETTING IT ALL DONE THE WAY I LIKE THINGS. THERE'S ALWAY SOMETHING TO FIX OR DO. $$$$$$$$$$ GOES FAST.I HATE TO THINK WHAT GRAMPS HAS SPENT ON THIS PLACE SINCE WE BOUGHT IT.WHEN AND IF EVERYTHING GETS DONE WE'LL HAVE A FINE HOME. I JUST WISH I COULD DO MORE FOR HIM.

MARE TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR PLACE OUTSIDE SO WE CAN SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE OR E MAIL ME PICTURES.

I'M SO HAPPY TO SEE CASEY IS HOME. I WISH WE COULD ALL WALK IN ON HIM. ALSO TAKE
    HIM A MEAL.

I SEE IT WAS 73 IN UPSTATE N.Y. TODAY AND RAINNING. MAYBE A SIGN OF COOLING DOWN. I HOPE SO ANYWAYS I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO COOLER WEATHER.

  6. I bet it feels good to be home, Mare. I enjoy going on road trips, but it always feels good to drive back into my own driveway and sleep in my own bed.

Beth, good luck with the house. I love Craftsman style homes, especially the porches. Actually, I love any house that has a porch. I have a stoop with three steps, but no porch. Where are you looking for your property?

Katie, continuing to send good thoughts your way.

    Hi Granny, Mary and Amy....

  7. Good afternoon ladies (and gents, if you're here!)

Beth, I sure hope you can get that house. It's teh first one you've really liked that I remember, so I hope it doesn't get away from you. I'll cross everything that you get it! Keep us posted!

GRANNY, I'M SO SORRY YOU LOST ANOTHER FRIEND! AND I'M GRATEFUL THAT YOU ARE HERE WITH US AND IN RELATIVELY DECENT HEALTH.

Well Jeanne's doctor call Kev at noon today. They don't really know why she got so sick or what's causing her medical problems except the bladder infection. Now she can't walk, sit up or feed herself! All in the last week! She's having a lot of trouble swallowing, yet she's raising a big fuss because she hates the soft food diet they put her on because of it!

She will probably be sent to a rehab nursing home tomorrow (Monday). They want us to give them the names of 3 nursing homes because there's no guarantee they can get her into the one we want. We don't know of 3 nursing homes! Kevin has conceded now that she might never be able to go home again. I'm sure that was one of the hardest sentences he's ever had to say. It's for the best. Beth, thank you for saying if we make the decision at least it will be the best one for her. That's true and I hadn't thought of it that way. It really helped. Luvs thanks for your support! GRANNY, THANK YOU, TOO!

We have been planning for a year to go away next weekend for a long weekend. Now we will just play it by ear, day by day. We are supposed to meet Kev's big brother in upstate NY to camp and go to the NASCAR races. It's an old family tradition. All depends on how Jeanne is doing. (I don't mean to sound selfish, but I suppose I do.)

The hospital is having a hard time with Jeanne because she is so agitated and demanding. When she's coherant, which is only part of the time. It will still be no picnic when she goes to a nursing home. I've always feared she would get kicked out of one! The last time she was in one, our life became almost a living hell because she was so difficult. She does seem a bit more docile now, but not much.

Mare, I hope all is well with you. Annie, you, too. Casey, if you're reading, please take care of yourself and get well real soon. I posted on your blog and miss you! Amy, welcome home! Hope your road trip was all you hoped it would be!

Later, gators. I'll update you tomorrow after a nursing home is assigned.

You are sure a great bunch of friends here!

  8. Hi to all. It has been a nice (lazy) sunday. We managed to get to 8 am church then breakfast & over to see dad. He had been upset because they thought they might give him a room mate! He just doesn't want that. Think it won't happen now, but could at a later time. Arthritis is really bothering him & back is acting up, so not to comfortable. Glad he is being well taken care of. Can't go see him tomorrow because of a dentist apt. (ugh)! Last apt. before school I believe. (although I need to have eye recheck in Sept.)!
Katie, I am so sorry you have to go through so much. It all sounds very familiar! I hope it all works out for everyone. Sorry you husband has to be sick right now. It's very hard when things are put on one person. Have been thinking of you & hope it all works out.
Granny, I am sorry you lost another friend! So hard to do. And I DO NOT think you are senile!
Good luck with the house Beth!
Little sis is so busy, hope she will have to write soon. Not sure how she keeps up. (Maybe 10 yrs. makes a difference???)
    EVERYONE , TAKE CARE

  10. Good evening Mare-Bloggers!

Thank you Mary and Luvs and Granny for your comments. I take every one of them to heart!

Jeanne is at the nursing home. She is in the one that was our second choice. It's not bad (much better than the last one she was in for rehab). Now Kevin won't commit to having her stay there after rehab. You guys, she SO needs to be there! They said she was approved for 8 days of rehab so I have a week to convince Kevin she will be better taken care of there.

    Mare, you're in my thoughts...
