How strange it is to be sitting at my own table with my own computer thinking of what to type on my own blog by my "own" self!! lol
I believe the trials and travels of the last few months are catching up with me, but its all part of the recuperating process I imagine.
While I was gone, I received a text from my youngest son with a picture of a painting attached...I asked him if his friend had painted a picture, if HE had painted a picture or just what...wasn't quite sure...
He then sent me ANOTHER picture of the painting so I could see the "scale" of it...WOW..this is no little 8X10!!
He had walked down to take his dad lunch and across the street, outside of a "junk" store, he saw this painting which really caught his eye...he figured it looked awesome so HAD to be expensive, but on his way back decided it couldn't hurt to check on it...as he grew closer, he loved it even more and was SURE it would be a LOT of $$$...the owner stepped out and it began..."how much are you asking..", "what will you give"??? "don't want to insult you" "how about 25?" "how about 5??" "well, 10?" "I don't know...5??" "it's really BIG...10?" (it's really big??? painting by the square foot??" "sounds fair!"
Ten dollars and a short walk home and it now resides in our home...in his room I might add....not on the wall yet (it's a small house!!)
He loves this painting...the color?? the size?? the??? I'm not really sure why, but he loves it and I appreciate that he loves it...
I think I will just say we don't have the same taste in paintings...and I can't even really put my finger on it,but that's ok...He likes original, created, thought out...and I appreciate that about HIM!
(Painting to scale)
I used to have a thrift store original painting that wasn't very good back in the days when I was just starting to accumulate "things". I put a "plate" on it that said, "Artist Unknown, For Obvious Reasons".
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the update on Megan! I wonder every day how she's doing that day. It seems awfully soon to be sending her back to work! But I suppose it's good.
My brother has one of those ports. Has to have his flushed every so often. But it's a Godsend when they need blood or to hook up an IV. He still has to go in to get hydrated about once a month or so. Starting today he's in the process of having all his broken teeth roots surgically removed and he might have dentures by the end of Sept! He can eat a lot more then. Plus his appearance will be majorly improved and I think he'll take better care of himself. The oncologist told him recently he's not in remission any more. He's 100% cancer-free! My hope is that Megan will hear those words when it gets to the other side of her chemo!
Beth, it was really good getting an update from you the other day, too! I hope you and Mr NYC haven't killed each other yet. LOL
Our weather has cooled down considerably and some nights it even feels like a touch of fall -- a month early! It has rained so often for the last 2 weeks that we haven't even had to water our garden! Today is lovely though.
Going to see Jeanne at the nursing home later this afternoon. I'm having some personal issues with her behavior lately and am fighting some demons there. Kevin and I have words about it sometimes. Neither of them will give an inch and it's a shame and a bad sign for the long term. My stomach is tied in knots most of the time lately. :(
Mare, I think you need good, old-fashioned rest! I hope you'll be able to just take it real easy for a while now. I think that's all that's going to get you back to normal, slowly but surely. And sleep. ((((Mare))))
Hello to all of the rest of Mare's bloggers! Post an update please. :)

Katie
Good evening. Katie, so sorry for the turmoil you are experiencing! Don't know why life has to deal us such fits at times! It has been a long day even though I only work until 2:30! Went to see dad & it took forever because of road work. He had stomach problems in the morning & his back was hurting a lot when I got there. My grandson from the neighboring town "drove" to school today (another thing to worry about---only 14)! He stopped to see gpa & they had a very nice visit. Dad seems to really enjoy when Isaac is there. Had an errand to run at the courthouse so home late. Also a call from dad after I got back!!! Am ready for bed about now.
ReplyDeleteI do hope Megan gets along ok. I know she is strong & will fight. We just keep praying for her. Don't know if I could handle all the turmoil that has gone on in your family little sis.
My husband had a very nice birthday. Kids & grandkids went out for pizza with us & had a wonderful ice cream cake for dessert! He really did enjoy it all.
Am planning to go to Omaha with my daughter one day next month! My grand daughter has an apt. & then, we are going wig shopping!!! I am excited about that.
I like Joe's picture. I am still waiting to get to Terry Redlin's art studio. He has an Eagle picture I would love to have. Guess it will wait for me!
Katie, take care of yourself. It is hard to go through all you are right now. I pray all goes well.
Good night all. Need to go rest my aching body! It says it is very tired .
hi
ReplyDeleteOh dear, lost 2 looooong posts....
ReplyDeleteWell it is 4:30am to my brain so that is my excuse...
Hello Everyone!
mare-thank you so much for the update. We are all here for you whenever you need to talk. It might help to get the words out of your head and down on paper. We are all trying to lift your family up in our own way. Good for Megan getting back to some normal activities. I really hope this helps her heal, in both mind and body.
Katie-prayers and good thoughts go out to you as you and Kevin deal with a difficult situation with his mom. Hang in there!
I am here in NYC, I guess getting ready for a hurricane. This is quite strange for me, a new experience. I hope it turns out to sea and doesn't cause any damage. I get to go visit my friend in New Jersey today...Hi Katie, will wave as I enter Joizee!... She started a bookclub years ago and I am an honorary member. This will be my first meeting and I am looking forward to it. I LOVE to read as I know Mare does also. Any of the rest of you like to read? I thought of you Mare as the last 2 weeks my church had a used book sale and hardbacks were $1.00 and paperbacks were .50 cents. I loaded up! Sunday will be the last day and they are just going to give them away, it is probably a good thing I am not there! ;-)
Hello to everyone!
Hugs, Beth
I ALSO LOST MY POST YESTERDAY I SEE. WAY TO LONG WITH LOTS OF LOVE WRITTEN TO ALL.
ReplyDeleteMARE. I LOVE THAT PICTURE.IT MADE ME THINK THAT GOD WAS TELLING YOU THAT SOMEONE IN FLORIDA IS PRAYING FOR YOU ALL THE TIME.THINK ABOUT IT. I THINK YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.GOD SPEAKS TO US IN DIFFERANT WAYS IF WE LISTEN.
HELLO MEGAN IF YOUR PEEKING. THE GIRLS ON YOUR MOMS' BLOG ARE HERE FOR YOU IN LOVE.
BETH, MAKE SURE YOUR MR. TAKES ALL WARNING SERIOUS. I WAS IN CHARLIE HURRICANE NOTHING TO JOKE ABOUT. THIS ONE THAT'S HEADING YOUR WAY IS NOT ONE TO PLAY WITH. FAR WORST THAN CHARLIE AND THAT ONE WAS BAD ENOUGH.I'M NOT TRYING TO SCARE YOU BUT BETTER A LITTLE SCARED THAN TO FLUFF IT OFF AS NOTHING. KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE WEATHER CHANNEL THAT WHAT WE DO HERE IN FLORIDA. I'M THANKFUL THAT WE DIDN'T GET IT BUT THEIR SAYING THERE'LL BE MUCH DAMAGE.I HOPE IT GOES OUT TO SEA BUT IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT GOING TO
KATIE, HOW DID YOUR VISIT GO WITH MIL? BABY STEPS.
GRANNY
Thank you Mary, Beth and GRANNY for your good thoughts, prayers and good wishes. They help. I saw Jeanne yesterday and she was doing a little better but it's one step forward and 2 steps back. Her attitude is getting better. Her legs are not. It's stressful be we see the signs just now of it beginning to settle into some sort of routine. When I left there yesterday I thanked my lucky stars that I am so healthy and happy. I put the top down on my little sportscar and took pains to enjoy my ride home, while I can! (Of course, I also thanked my lucky stars that Jeanne is being well taken care of.)
ReplyDeleteWe're right in the path of the hurricane. I've been through lots of them. Usually when they leave the ocean and get on land, they fizzle out pretty fast. The weathermen still don't know for sure what path Irene will take. We're due to get hit Sunday. Expecting lots of wind and rain. Trees and branches will be down, along with power lines. We can't flush our toilet when the power is out because are well pump is electric! LOL That will be the biggest inconvenience for us. I don't think we're looking at roof-ripping winds. Not to downplay it, but this is how I feel based on my 25 years of experience in the northeast in hurricanes.
Beth, get candles and camping lanterns that don't use fuel. The new LED lanterns with batteries are the ones you want. I would guess that probably MR NYC's building has backup generators in case the power goes out, though. Cook ahead. And buy a case of bottled water (if there's any left in the stores now). The map I just looked at had the storm hitting you in the wee hours of Monday. Try not to be scared. It will all be over in a few hours and you both will be fine. You're probably safer in NYC than way out in the burbs. Good luck, my friend!
Hi as you cross the river to the Jersey side! You'll be about an hour north of me then.
Mary, happy belated birthday to Mr. Mary! Sounds like he had a nice birthday. You take good care of yourself. It sounds like you are really pushing it. Can you cut out something for a while?
GRANNY, WE ARE BOTH VETERANS OF HURRICANES, AREN'T WE? CHARLIE WAS WORSE THAN I HAVE SEEN. I'M SO GLAD IRENE IS MISSING YOU! MY BELOVED OUTER BANKS IS GOING TO GET HAMMERED. THE HOUSE WE RENT IS PRETTY HURRICANE PROOF THOUGH. NOT OCEANFRONT. I HOPE EVERYONE THERE WILL SURVIVE AND NOT TOO MUCH DAMAGE. THEY ALWAYS GET HIT IT SEEMS!
DID YOU GET ART PAPER AND PAINT YET? MOVE THAT UP YOUR PRIORITY LIST, WILL YA? :)
Much love to all of you! Mare, where are you? Talk to us please. Maybe we can help carry the load.xox
Katie
Oh yeah! If any of you watch The Weather Channel, they will go to The Hurricane Watch studio. My husband's company designed and built that studio and my huband made all the graphics and applied them to the desk and walls and floor. Just a bit of trivia for you!
ReplyDeleteKATIE, SILS' MOTHER PASSED THIS PASS YEAR. SHE WAS AN ARTIST. I'M HOPING THE SIL WHEN HE HAS FREE TIME WILL ASK HIS DAD FOR SOME OF HER PAINTS ETC.
ReplyDeleteBETH DON'T TAKE THIS HURRICANE LIGHTLY.I ALWAYS FILL MILK CARTONS UP WITH WATER.ANYTHING THAT HOLDS WATER. BETTER TO BE READY AND IF YOUR LUCKY NOT TO GET DAMAGE YOU CAN ALWAYS DUMP IT OUT AFTER. ALSO THE BATHTUB. THAT WATER CAN BE USED FOR MANY THINGS IF YOUR WATER GETS SHUTDOWN.LIKE BEING ABLE TO WATER YOUR HANDS AND FACE.GRAMPS AND I LEARN FROM THE HURRICANES WE'VE BEEN IN NOT TO TAKE IT LIGHTLY.LETS PRAY THAT BY THE TIME IT GETS IN YOUR AREA IT WON'T BE AS BAD. THE WEATHERMAN SAID THERE'RE 40 FT WAVES OUT IN THE OCEAN. NOW THAT'S WAVES I CAN'T IMAGINE. THEY JUST SAID N.Y.C. WILL BE A 1 BETTER THAN 4 OR 5. THEY JUST SAID THAT IF WE GOT A DIRECT HITHERE IN TAMPAIT WOULD BE WORSE THAN N.Y.C.JUST BY THE WAY THE WATER WOULD GET PUSH IN FROM THE BAY.SO GOOD LUCK.
HI MARY, NOTHING NEW TO REPORT HERE. JUST WANTED TO SAY HELLO. WE'VE BEEN DOCTORING OUR LITTLE JOEY[MALTESE] FOR THE PAST SERVERAL DAYS. THEY DID TESTS ON HIM AND FOUND HE HAS A BAD INFECTION. FINALLY TODAY HE'S ACTING MORE LIKE HIMSELF.BACK TO BARKING AT EVERYTHING. SO LET HIM BARK IT'S A GOOD SIGN. GRAMPS TOOK ME TO GET MY HAIRCUT BACK TO MY OLD STYLE. NOW I FEEL LIKE TEN YEARS HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF MY FACE. IT'S FUNNY AFTER GETTING A HAIRCUT IT ALWAYS MAKES ME FEEL GREAT. LOVE IT EVEN THOUGH MY HAIR HAS FALLING OUT AGAIN. IT'S GOT TO BE THE MEDS.
HI AMY, I GOT TO GET OFF HERE AND CHECK YOUR BLOG OUT.
CHEERS EVERYONE.
LOU TG
Hurricane Irene has been downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane for when it hits Jersey and NYC. That's 85 mph winds and lots of rain. But that won't be so bad. There will be flooding in areas that tend to flood (none near me) and lots of downed trees, limbs and power lines. I'm ready! :)
ReplyDeleteAs Granny said she'd heard!
Granny I hope you can get some of those art supplies but if you have to wait too long, please just go buy a starter set. I don't think they cost too much and you could get started! I just feel that you are going to do some great things with paints!
Congrats on the haircut. I LOVE haircuts! :)
Katie
My squiggly word was "howlin"! LOL
ReplyDeleteHi everyone. Love reading all of the updates, but I'm just not in a chatty mood tonight. We had some drama here this afternoon/evening, but it seems to have passed for now. Although as I have learned in the past, still waters run deep....
ReplyDeleteMy phone - my only lifeline - is messed up. I can't access facebook or twitter at all right now. Well, I can do a little bit on facebook via text, but can't update my NSM page at all. :( And I tether my phone to my computer for internet access so everything is messed up.
Just a perfect end to a perfectly craptastic day. Sleep will do me good tonight.
Take care everyone....and be safe from the storm. One of my best friends has a house on the Outer Banks and he is a nervous wreck right now, just waiting....
AMY, AS HE SHOULD BE. STAY SAFE AMYS' FRIEND. THIS STORM IS VERY SCARY. THE PRESIDENT JUST MADE AN APPERANCE ON TV ABOT THE HURRICANE. I FEEL VERY GRATEFUL HIT BY PASSED US HERE ALTHOUGH JACKSONVILLE WILL BE OR THEY MAY ALREADY ARE GETTING HEAVY RAIN.SOME PLACES ARE EXPECTING ONE FOOT OF RAIN.
ReplyDeleteGRANNY
IT NOT HIT.
ReplyDeleteGRANNY
Now Irene has been downgraded again, this time to a Tropical Storm when it hits us and NYC. That's winds of 50-70 mph with some gusts up to 95. Looks like the wind and rain are going to continue for 20 hours or so, as opposed to the few hours I've seen before.
ReplyDeleteHow's Megan today? How are you doing today Mare?
Katie
once again...
ReplyDeleteNow my google account doesn't work but this one does, go figure!
ReplyDeleteHello Mare and Mare-bloggers,
Praying that Megan gets stronger each day and that you, Mare, get rest and peace. Hugs to you, my friend.
Spent all day yesterday shopping for supplies for Irene. Bought way to much food and will probably gain 10 pounds this week! It is due to go right over us so my thoughts and prayers have been for it to weaken as it is over land. I know it will still be one whopper of a storm as Katie said just because it is going to last so long. My main worry is for Mr.NYC as he will be out in it for his job. Please send him your prayers and best wishes. Of course my family is very concerned for me as I will be alone during the hurricane but my main worry is for him and others who have to be out in it helping others. I will fill the bathtub tonight and every pot and pan with water and stay away from windows.
Please be safe everyone. My thoughts are with all of you.
Hugs, Beth
Beth and Katie, and any other folks on the East Coast, be safe! Beth, I wish you didn't have to be alone during this! It sounds like you both have enough provisions to see you through. I'm hoping Irene keeps getting downgraded, and ends up just be a good rainstorm by the time it hits where you guys are. Keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteMare, take good care of yourself. Keeping good thoughts for Megan.
sitting here at 2:22am waiting for Irene to hit... will probably stay up all night. I think it's awesome that your son is interested in art and that he found a very agreeable store owner. I bet the guy could tell how much your son liked it and I can tell the painting likes its new owner! It has a happy sense about it.
ReplyDeletewent to see dad today...he is becoming more and more sharp and wants to talk money! Oh dear..have NOT abused his account, BUT he thinks (is CONVINCED) he has more than he does..oh dear...and I keep getting grilled, etc etc...oh well...working on a solution that will be agreeable to him...is hard for him not to be "in charge" as he was used to being just that his entire life.!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like our east coast friends are doing pretty good ...YEAH! so happy about that...we had a rain shower this a.m. but that was it LOL...and it was a fairly cool day here.
I have read all your texts, but have not had time to respond! I am so sorry...
Katie, and beth...glad all is well..
Luvs...did you go junking this weekend??
Amy...hope all is calming down for you...Being a mom is just plain hard no matter, but by yourself is SUPER hard I'm certain!
TG:GLAD YOU DON'T HAVE ANY STORMS WHERE YOU ARE AND HOPING YOU WILL DO AS KATIE MENTIONED AND GET SOME ART SUPPLIES!
Casey, need to run over to your blog and check it out...anxious to see what's up...
I keep peeking in over at Annies...she's still in our sphere..
Oh, who did i miss??? anyone?? if you're peeking...hello to you too! Please say "hi"...
have a good evening all...we will be getting around in the next day or so as we need to go to Wisconsin on business (that sounds strange, huh??)
Remember to ck in on twitter if you wonder what I'm up to...
Just wish I could finish up around here...need curtains and rugs yet! yikes...will I ever finish!!??
Good evening everyone...
Mare
Hi everyone!
ReplyDeleteJust a quick note to let everyone know things here are fine. We lost a big apple tree in our back yard but that's all. Lots and lots of rain, and we had already had the wettest August in recorded history. It rained steadily for about 15 hours! The tree fell because the ground was so soft, not because of the wind. Odd, huh? Cable was out until just now but I wanted to get a quick note posted. The hurricane wasn't nearly as bad here as we were told it would be.
Beth, were you without power? Hope you are ok! And please thank Mr NYC on behalf of all of us for coming to our rescues! Please report in! ;)
Will write more later. Have a good week everyone!
Katie
Hello Everyone!
ReplyDeleteIt was a long couple of days preparing for Irene, who invited her for dinner anyway?! I was glad that we were prepared and understood why they evacuated and closed the things they did. It really could have been horrible. I heard one meterologist say that the reason it wasn't as bad as expected was because it hit the Carolina's so hard and wasn't able to re-center before it got here. Poor Carolinas! There was still a LOT of damage. As Katie said, mostly because of the amount of rain because Irene took so long to leave. We never lost power and did not have any damage. A friend lost some siding off of her house.
Katie-I will thank Mr.NYC, that was very kind of you to say. He put in a 14 hour day yesterday, they rarely get a thank you.
We were suppose to leave on Wednesday for a few days to go out to Long Island to the North shore's wine country. I need to call there to see if the B & B was damaged.
Have a wonderful last week of summer!
Muah to Megan!
Hugs, Beth
Thanks for checking in Beth. I'm so happy you're both all right.
