(This was one of the displays in the store! I HAD to put it in to show Megan the "rubbery" fruit! She used to play with the pretend grapes on grandma's table..silly girl! She would rub them together and pull them off the stems!)
Good Morning(afternoon for some of you!)
Got a text from Megan this a.m. that she saw on facebook where the little "used" store downtown was open and would I go check on chairs that she has been wanting...whats a mom to do but pull on some clothes and head out the door! She has been looking for old metal chairs to refinish and the people who own the "recycled" store in town (look them up on facebook) had gotten some in but their hours are sporadic. SO from 500 miles away, she sends me off to look.
They had some in the store and some at their house, so I swung around that way too (after looking through the treasures in the store) and settled on four chairs for her and a couple goodies for myself...(the spice jars are actually for son #2) LOVE the aqua bowl (I will refer to it as a candy dish although I am certain it is a planter) and I also got an old serving tray. FUN!
Now I need to run lunch down to Mike and then I REALLY have to get busy with cleaning chores..ugh (but love it when its finished)
Have a great day everyone! Find at least ONE thing to do that pleases just YOU!
Mare
I could see some "Casey-style" artwork done on those metal chairs. Thanks for the post and enjoy your day. xxxooo
ReplyDeleteYes, I do love the chippy goodness of those chairs, Mare! In fact, I love everything you bought! I really love the blue candy dish. It probably is a planter, but I have vintage pottery that I repurpose as candy dishes, too. You should now make it your mission to hunt for other vintage turquoise pottery! I started with one vintage pink candy dish, and now have a nice collection of pink pottery from the 50s.
ReplyDeleteBTW, how much did you pay for those chairs? Here they would be $45-$60 per chair. Maybe more, in a la di da area. I have three. All given to me by sweet, elderly neighbors who think I am crazy.
Oh, and your house looks way pretty!
ReplyDeleteAnnie, you are SO right! can you even (or rather ONLY) imagine what Casey could do with the chairs??? A treasure for sure!
ReplyDeleteLuvs...I am on the "lookout" for aqua/blue-ish (even love jadeite)
The chairs went WAAAAAY over what we thought they should...$20 and they wouldn't come down on them LOL! The dish was $3 (she had 5 on it but of course was TOO MUCH:)I am sure we would have sticker shock were we to get to live in your area! Thanks for the nice comment about the house...we REALLY need to get things finished up a bit more and i STILL want to do some before and afters for you...someday...sooomedaaaay :)
Have a good one everybody
I LOVE those chairs! We have 2 of them that were my dear grandma's. I was going to ask the price also but Luv beat me to it. $20.00!!! Buy them all for me and I will be there soon to pick them up!!! Oh my... She also had a tray like that. I agree, I love everything that you got.
ReplyDeleteOff to the house inspection...
I am a nervous wreck...
Hugs, Beth
Good Luck Beth! Thinking of you and hoping (praying) for the best outcome for you..whatever that may be!
ReplyDelete(and you ladies are so funny..I tried to get them to come down ont he price cuz it seemed ridiculously out of line...!!! but Megs really really wanted them and was willing to ante up the $$ for them!)
LOVVE THOSE CHAIRS. THEY SELL THEM. I'D SAY LOOK THEM UP ON THE INTERNET. I WOULD KOVE THEM FOR THE FRONT PORCH. YES, I COULD SEE CASEYS' ARTWORK ON THEM. I BET MEGAN WILL BRING THEM BACK TO LIFE..

Twenty dollars is a great price for the chairs! At least for retail. If I found them here at twice that, I'd be surprised at the bargain.
ReplyDeleteI love jadeite. I only have one thing, a coffee mug that belonged to my mom. I do have a few pieces of vintage pottery in the jadeite color. I would have more, but I don't know where I'd put it, so I usually pass it up now when I see it. I collect too much stuff already. But I love that color!
Mare, I love turquoise, too. Have you seen the House of Turquoise blog? Sorry for another post, but I keep sending my entry without completing my thoughts. Need to slow down!
ReplyDeleteooh, haven't found that one yet Sandra, thanks! and btw, love all your comments!

ReplyDeleteAt least 9 people killed in Florida highway pileup

Gainesville, Fla. — A long line of cars and trucks collided one after another early Sunday on a dark Florida highway so shrouded in haze and smoke that drivers were virtually blinded. At least nine people were killed.
Visibility was so poor that when rescuers first arrived, they could only listen for screams and moans to locate victims, police said.
Authorities were still trying to determine what caused the pileup south of Gainsville on Interstate 75, which had been closed for a time because of the mixture of fog and heavy smoke from a brush fire. At least five cars and six tractor-trailers were involved, and some burst into flame.
Photographs of the scene revealed a gruesome aftermath, with twisted, burned-out vehicles scattered across the pavement and smoke still rising above the wreckage. Cars appeared to have smashed into the big rigs and, in one case, a motor home. Some cars were crushed beneath the heavier trucks.
Reporters who were allowed to view the site saw one tractor-trailer that was burned down to its skeleton, charred pages of books and magazines in its cargo area. Bodies were still visible inside a burned-out Grand Prix. The rubber on the tires of every vehicle had burned away, leaving only steel belts.
State police estimated that wreckage was strewn for nearly a mile in both directions.
Donna Henry was driving south at 3:45 a.m. when she encountered the dense smoke.
“We just hit it, and you couldn’t see anything,” Henry told The Gainesville Sun. She was driving with friends back home to Palm Bay.
Her car struck a guardrail and ended up sideways in the outside lane. She pulled off the highway and called 911 while listening to the sound of the other crashes on both sides of the busy road.
“You heard like 15 times somebody hit, from this side and that, north and south. It was bad.”
All six lanes of the interstate — which runs virtually the entire length of Florida — remained closed at midday as investigators surveyed the site and firefighters sprayed foam on the wreckage to put out the last of the fires.
At least 18 people were hurt.
At some point before the pileup, police briefly closed the highway because of the fog and smoke, which came from a fire in the Paynes Prairie area south of Gainesville. The road was reopened when visibility improved.
Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Patrick Riordan said he was not sure how much time passed between the reopening of the highway and the first crash.
Traffic was being diverted onto U.S. 301 and State Road 27, Riordan said.
Four years ago, heavy fog and smoke were blamed for another serious crash.
In January 2008, four people were killed and 38 injured in a series of similar crashes on Interstate 4 between Orlando and Tampa, about 125 miles south of Sunday’s crash. More than 70 vehicles were involved in those crashes, including one pileup that involved 40 vehicles.
Oh my Lou, that sounds so so awful! but i thank you for sharing it...praying for the families involved..and I am so thankful yours are ok...Hoping your girls are doing ok as well...
ReplyDeletePraying all is/will be well..
