18 and Counting

We're BACK!  500 + miles and after leaving at 9:38 MT time this a.m., I pulled into the drive at 7:35 p.m. CT!!
Moe came back with me only one day after turning 18! We needed the help with the product trailer that is at the county fair so trooper that she is...she came back with me.  It is so nice to have her with us and next week Megan and Graycie will come up for a few days to visit (and hopefully Graycie will get to work a couple days for Gramps at the trailer) and then Moe will go back with them.
It was a nice visit at Megan's...a triple hit as I got to visit with the whole family, was there for Morgan's 18th birthday, and enjoyed the weather back "home."
It will be a long few days coming up...a long couple weeks in fact...I keep up on my phone, but don't always get to respond or post..SO...just know that I see you all!

One last time for this year...HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOE! Our first grandbaby...what a blessing...what fun! what an adventure!  Gramps and I love you TOO much! First senior picture Gift from gramps and me Gramps couldn't be there so Moe took a picture for him of his gift

  2. Happy 18th birthday again Moe! Your ring is just beautiful. I think this ring will be something you have your whole life, and will always make you feel very loved when you look at it. How lucky you are to have so many people who see how special you are! By the way, are you lying on the railroad tracks in your picture? That's what it looks like to me!

Enjoy this part of your summer, Moe and Mare!

  3. Happy Birthday Mo... It is special when your first grandchild is born and then when they turn 18 years old Mare. The ring is a perfect gift. I have 3 adult grandsons now. How quickly they grow and in my case they are all over 6 ft. tall and over 18 years old. Speaking about the ring, when I was 10 years old my parents gave me my birthstone (garnet) ring. My Mom knew if she gave my older sister one for Christmas, she needed to give me (who is 5 years younger) one too. I am happy to say I still have that ring, my sister Joan lost hers. I wore it for many years but one of the prongs on the dark garnet has worn so I no longer wear it. I should get it fixed. Speaking about my sister on her 68 birthday which was Thursday, she stepped on a small toy of her great grandson and fell on her left knee and shattered her knee cap in half. Joan has serious medical problems so she is considered high risk for the operation to replace her knee cap. Say a prayer!! She just went through testing that her cortid artery in her neck (both sides) are blocked over 79%, she is a diabetic and has had one major heart attack. The doctors were gathering info to operate on her artery problem when she fell.

Lou...I went for the final evaluation for the scooter. Paper work has been sent into Medicare and now I wait. Today we are suppose to have temps up to 98 degrees. Last weekend we got a break and had rain for the first time since early May. The ground is so dry.

Enjoy the weekend everyone! Have fun with your granddaughter Mare. My youngest granddaughter made me laugh so hard the other night, her Daddy was giving her a bath and at 2 1/2 yrs old, when you have to go poop, they go. She did it in the bath tub. Matthew was besides himself in disbelief. I told Mackenzie, that is ok, your Daddy did the same thing when he was your age. The expression on my son's face was priceless. He had to clean the tub out, disinfect it and start all over again giving her a bath while grandma shared stories about Daddy to her.

    Take care....

  4. GLORIA, LOL, YOUR LITTLE STORY STARTED GRAMPS AND MY DAY WITH A LAUGH OUT LOUD LAUGH. IF YOU GOT TO GO, YOU GOT TO GO.JUST THIS PAST WEEK I GOT A STORY IN ONE OF MY E MAILS ABOUT A LITTLE BOY THAT WANTED TO KNOW WHY HIS CAT HAD A LITTER BOX. THE MOTHER EXPLAINED AND THEN WENT ABOUT HER BUSINESS. WHEN SHE CAME BACK IN THE ROOM THE LITTLE GUY WAS --WELL YOU KNOW!! [ HE WAS USING THE LITTERBOX.]SOMETIME VISUALS CAN MAKE A MOTHER LAUGH OUT LOUD.

LOV,I DON'T THINK I'VE EVER SEEN ON THE BLOGS IF YOUR MARRIED OR HAVE CHILDREN. I KNOW OUR DOGS ARE LIKE OUR CHILDREN BUT I NEVER HEARD YOU SPEAK OF FAMILY. OUR JOEY NOW IS LIKE ONE OF OUR KIDS NOW THAT THE KIDS ARE GROWN AND HAVE THEIR OWN FAMILIES. JOEY IS ALMOST HUMAN. HE DOESN'T MISS A TRICK AROUND HERE.HE'S ALSO ON A DOG CLOCK.I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY KNOW TIME BUT HE DOES.SO,SO SPOIL.

SO MARE, WHAT'S ON YOUR AGENDA? SO LETS TAKE MOE TO THE FALLS AND SHARE GRANNY STORIES WITH HER. I THINK YOU NEED TO LAY DOWN ON THOSE TRACKS AND LET HER TAKE A PICTURE OF YOU. FRAME THE PICTURE AND GIVE IT TO HER FOR CHRISTMAS. SHE WOULD GET A GIGGLE OR TWO DOWN THE LINE WHEN SHE HAS KIDS OF HER OWN AND TALKS ABOUT YOU TO THEM. IT COULD BE CALLED [ALL IN A DAY AT GRANDMAS' HOUSE]I THINK THAT'S WHY I LIKE YOU SO MUCH. YOUR JUST A COOL GRANNY AND KNOW HOW TO HAVE FUN.

TODAY THE SUN IS SHINNING BUT WE ALWAYS GET AFTERNOON RAINS. THE TROPICS ARE STIRRING UP THE STORMS.IT'S NOT MY FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR. YOU NEVER KNOW WHICH WAY THE HURRICANE WILL GO.

GO MAKE SOMEONE LAUGH TODAY.GLORIA MADE US LAUGH. NOW IT'S YOUR TURN.

  5. Hello Mare and Mare-bloggers!
Mr.NYC was here all week, just got back from taking him to the airport. Going back to airport in the am to take my daughter. She is going on her first trip by herself to visit a high school friend in Chicago. She is nervous. I am trying to calm her down but know that flying to me is like crossing the street.

Mare-the ring is so beautiful. I agree with all of the others, it is something that Moe will cherrish for life. You and hubby are such great grandparents, kind and loving,...your family is blessed!

Gloria-prayers out to your sister, what an awful accident.

    HUGS TO ALL!

  6. Well Miss Morg, I hope it was a wonderful birthday. (Am sure it was). Happy you came back to help out (I know 2 people who love that)!
Got some rain again. Love the thunder & the rain, it reminds me of my grandma! She always made it such a beautiful time!
It was cooler today, so we took dad for the ride hes been wanting. took him in the country around laurel, past my daughters home in another small town close by, then, to another town where his parents & 2 tiny siblings are buried. He has wanted to go for a long time. It reminded me of the times we all piled in the car & went for a Sun. drive in the country. He was happy & very tired when we got back. He didnt seem as stiff as I thought he would be, but am sure it will take a couple days to recoup!
Summer is flying so quickly. Still have to get a 12 yr. old over to see you little sis. Let me know when it will work. She is excited about it.
Will be starting to volunteer at preschool in sept. (they talked about a little pay if the count gets any higher. Will be interesting & fun with all those 3 yr. olds.

Hope you all have better weather & stay healthy!

  7. Hi Mare and all you great Mare-bloggers!

Luvs, decided yet what you're going to plant? So exciting!

Beth, glad you had a good week with MrNYC! Good luck to your daughter with her traveling experience! I still mostly love to travel. Where I'm sitting on the plane and which airline I use seems to make a huge difference. Hope she enjoys her trip! O'Hare can be awfully confusing on your first time there. Is she flying to and from O'Hare?

When do you go back to NYC?

Kev had to go to the other house this morning for a showing and was thrilled and happy when he saw the potential buyer -- it's an old, old friend of ours! He loved the house and says if he can get the financing in order he'd like to buy it! Neat, huh?!

We also found out there are companies out there that will come remove everthing except what you tell them to leave for a small fee. We are definitely going to look into that! Cleaning the house out isn't going very well, to tell you the truth,

Hope everyone has a great Sunday and a great week!

Mare, Mike and Moe, please drink tons of ice cold water while you're at the fairs! And stay out of the sun as nuch as you can.

Moe, once again a very happy birthday! Your ring is really really pretty! Hang on to that!

Mary Etta, what a good daughter you were to take your wonderful dad for a car ride in the country! My mother in law begs us to do that but in her present physical condition, we can't get her in or out of a car. so I know how badly they want to go out sometimes. My mil has been in the nursing home now since Nov. 1st and she is still asking to go home. She doesn't want to stay there. Well, we're being forced right now to sell her home, she knows deep in her secret heart that she can't go home, and she has a nice place where she is but she always looks for the worst in things, Always has. I never thought she'd be happy there or anywhere else, for that matter, including home! She's just a grouchy, difficult woman. A complainer. It's such a shame, really. She's in a nice place with good food and a very nice staff.

Oh well...back to your dad. How is he feeling lately? He is such a sweet man!

    Onward and upward...
    Katie

  11. Hi all,

No definite plans for the garden, other than I know I will be following Mel Bartholomew's Square Foot Gardening. I went yesterday and helped shovel decomposed granite for the garden walkways and driveway. We are in the early stages, but some folks have already planted, but no one else is doing SFG. Well, one man is doing his own version. I will be getting all the components of the planting mix this weekend, hopefully, and will at least get good soil in the raised box.

I have been out of sorts this week. One of my dogs has been very ill, and had emergency surgery. I will get the pathology report in a few days. She seems to be acting like her old self the last few days, so I hope this is a good sign. She is 13 + so at this age, it can be tenuous.

Did I tell you I am taking a beginner's tai chi class? I am. Sunday mornings, in a park. It's my church.

  12. Luvs, sending all good thoughts and vibes to your poor sick dog. What's his name? Or can't you say? I sure hope he has a full recovery!

Good on ya for taking tai chi!

And good luck with your garden. Must be nice to be in California. It's way too late to plant a garden here. LOL I have not heard of your garden plan. Is that from a book?

  13. Just got the pathology report, Annabelle does not have cancer, so we celebrated with ice cream! Katie, Square Foot Gardening was a PBS series, and Mel Bartholomew has written several books on his gardening philosophy. He has a web site and blog. Just Google him, and you can read all about SFG.

  14. Luv-so glad your dog got a good path report. You must have been so scared. Our pets are so precious and innocent.
    Happy planting and tai chi-ing!

Hi Mare! hope you are having a great time with your family! My son just got back from camping in Mammoth, a beautiful mountain resort town a few hours from here. His pictures were amazing, even the ones of the bears that were roaming around camp!...as he said, they were only babies, mom....and we looked out for their mommas!

Katie-I head back to NYC the end of the month for a friend's birthday. A rare treat for Mr.NYC and I. We will get to see each other in less then 3 weeks!

    Hugs, Beth

  15. Luvs, Yay Yay Yay Yay! Congrats on the great path report! Hope Annabelle feels all better real soon!

    I'll google Mel Bartholomew.

Beth, I've always heard of how beautiful Mammoth is. Even up in Washington state it's famous. Glad your son had a good time. (And no mama bears in camp!)

Have a blast in NYC the end of the month! We're having hot, muggy, stormy weather but maybe it will stop by then.

That's also the weather report for our camping trip this weekend. Yuck. Last year it rained almost the whole time and it sure puts a damper on your fun weekend. But we keep going back. LOL

Mare, hope all is going well! Is your bronchitis gone? Hydrate well, please!

    Granny, hope you're feeling better!

  16. Hello Everyone!

On my way to my great-neice's 3rd birthday! Should be fun. My neice, her mommy, is having a cupcake decorating bake shop theme. She made little aprons for all of the children and my other neice made a birthday cake that should win a prize, it is so cute. It looks like a big cupcake with various bake shop goodies all around it. So much talent!

Another hot day here....we are melting along with the rest of the nation. Should break a little by Monday. I think we will all be glad for Fall to come~!

Will by down by you Luv, look for my wave!

    Hugs, Beth
